Pronunciation Tip 🗣️

The word ‘unwind’ is pronounced as /ˌʌnˈwaɪnd/. Here’s a breakdown to help with pronunciation:

Start with the "un-" sound:

  • Begin with the short "uh" sound, similar to the "u" in "cup." Open your mouth slightly and relax your tongue.

Follow with the "n" sound. Place your tongue against the ridge behind your upper front teeth and make the "n" sound.

Move to the "-wind" part:

  • Start with the "w" sound. Form your lips into a small, tight circle as if you are about to whistle, and then quickly release a small puff of air.

  • Next is the long "i" sound, which is pronounced like "eye." Open your mouth wide and make the sound, similar to saying the letter "I."

  • Follow with the "n" sound again. Place your tongue against the ridge behind your upper front teeth and make the "n" sound.

  • End with the "d" sound. Place the tip of your tongue against the ridge behind your upper front teeth and release it while making a voiced sound.

Putting it all together, you get "uhn-WYND."

Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. "uh": Relax your mouth and vocalise a short "uh" sound.

  2. "n": Keep your tongue against the roof of your mouth, just behind your teeth, and make the "n" sound.

  3. "w": Pucker your lips slightly and produce the "w" sound by releasing a small puff of air.

  4. "eye": Open your mouth wide and say "eye."

  5. "n": Again, with your tongue against the roof of your mouth, make the "n" sound.

  6. "d": With your tongue in the same position as for "n," release it slightly to make the "d" sound.

When pronounced smoothly, it sounds like "uhn-WYND."
